HISTORYMagadi region, Karnataka, Andhra and the Veershaivas! Buddhist and Jains?

A fresh day from Bengaluru, travel to Magadi. Start with “places” – places under a tree, grove or amongst rocks. We may glance at some things of Kempegowda. But, once at this hidden place, the peace of it will evoke the poet in you. Let the peace and quiet seep in. Breathe the fresh clean air, take a pause, take your time – the place did inspire a poet! Spot some things in nature. Locate the hidden history. A little climb and you are set to write your poem.

History

You have not heard of this poet or the place before. You may know the region of Kempegowda – the king associated with Bengaluru. We will see some of his markers, his fort and ponder on them. But our main story is of an even earlier time, and you can actually see the remnants in stone – inscriptions and artefacts. The place still holds its original peace and quiet. Can you spot and read like archaeologists? Water is a serious business here!

GEO

Wondered about the hills around Bengaluru, do the rocks say something? Do the hills say something? Did someone say a river begins here?

ECO

With its undisturbed local flora and fauna, intimate and untamed, you get to observe and spot things in nature. You could spot some birds, or beetles or who knows some special frog!

Been to many treks… but this was a different feeling

“It was a wonderful experience. I have been to many treks… 1 day, 2 days, 7 days and more. But this was a different feeling. It was a day trip… picnic, exploring, temple visits, a peep into our rich history, savoring the beauty of mango grove, good food, enthusiastic team including a 3 year old… all bundled into one. The trip made so much more sense with your explanations and  enthusiasm. I am amazed at your treasure of knowledge!”

      The trip was an Experience!

“The trip was an experience. Learnt about the Veera-gals (Hero-stones), that had a great and gruesome story to it. I did not know that Sati was a practice common even in South India. The actual poet’s place was surprisingly heavy on content.
