The Bamiyan Buddhas of Afghanistan were known the world over and their destruction in March 2001 by the Taliban-led regime in Afghanistan was watched in horror by all. While in June 2015, two Chinese artists filled the empty cavities where the Buddhas once stood with 3D laser light projection technology (holographic statues, they were called), in India’s Ladakh region there still stand many such bas relief Buddhas, about which very few know of.

This tour—Buddha Rocks—takes you to a few unique rock-cut standing Buddhas amidst a landscape which by itself attracts many a traveler to Ladakh. The tour is designed in such a way that one not only visits these impressive Buddhas, but also experiences the cold desert landscape of the region.
